How the auction house works

A public auction sale is held every five weeks, the time needed for appraisal, photography, catalogue writing and the presentation of the lots put up for sale. On this occasion, an exhibition takes place on the five days preceding the auction days, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM (late opening on Friday evening until 9:00 PM).

We specialise in antiques, Asian art, art objects, period and style furniture, display and luxury items... Every day, we add lots to our website, right up to the closing of the catalogue the day before the exhibition. The items are sold by auction exclusively. The lots come mainly from estates and voluntary deposits by private individuals. A 25% fee is to be added to the hammer price.

Taking part in the auctions

There are no longer any live floor auctions. All bidding takes place online on our website www.rops-online.be.

You must register prior to the sale. Keep your username and password safe. They allow you to log in and manage your bids each time.

My selection

Your selection allows you to save the lots you are interested in in a private area. You can access it via the link located at the top right, under your username.

To add or remove a lot from your selection, click on the button located on the thumbnail or the detailed page of each lot.

The detailed page of each lot indicates, where applicable, the number of visitors who have added this lot to their selection.

Example: "In the selection of 2 visitor(s)", this gives you an estimate of the number of potential bidders on this lot.

Once the sale has started, you can monitor your entire selection and see the bids placed in real time. You can then place new bids using the button.

Bids

The details of the bids appear in the “History" tab on each lot's page.

You can also see all your bids in your personal area. To access it, click at the top right on "My Account" then on the links on the left "Buy" and "My Bids".

Bidding on a lot

To place a bid on a lot you are interested in, two options are available to you:

Manual bidding:

You bid progressively until the final day and time of the award. For efficient management, all lots are awarded at different times. If someone places a bid less than 5 minutes before the deadline, the system automatically extends the time by 5 minutes.

Automatic bidding:

You enter your maximum offer in the « automatic maximum offer » box and the system bids for you against the other bidders. The system will award the lot to you just above the last bid. This information is known and managed only by the system. The Auction House staff have no access to it.

The bidding increments are defined as follows:

From To Bidding increment
0€ 100€ 10€
100€ 300€ 20€
300€ 500€ 30€
500€ 1000€ 50€
1000€ 2000€ 100€
2000€ 3000€ 200€
3000€ 5000€ 300€
5000€ and above 500€

Notes and examples:

If you place a maximum offer of €2,000 and the last bidder bids €1,100, the system will bid €1,200 for you.

If, in the hours preceding the end of the auction, an enthusiast has bid more than your maximum offer, you can see it and you can then still bid manually.

This system allows you to relax if you do not like the suspense of auctions or if you are unable to follow the bidding step by step at the right moment…

The fees are 25%: you will pay the hammer price plus 25%.

Bid withdrawal is not permitted. In the event of an error, contact the auction house urgently.
